This
tour follows the old trade routes of camel "kafilas" when goods
were carried,
exchanged and bartered by tradesmen with their camels and cities were built
in the desert on
the strength and wealth of the local merchants.
Day 1. Arrival at Delhi Airport.
You will be welcomed at the Airport in traditional style and escorted to
your hotel for overnight stay.
Day 2. Day at leisure in Delhi.
Afternoon sightseeing of Old / New Delhi if desired. Overnight at your
hotel.
Day 3. Delhi - Samode
Morning drive into Rajasthan. Your first stop is at the village of Samode
with overnight stay at the Samode Bagh. Amidst beautiful Moghul style
gardens surrounded by a high wall, a luxurious tented camp has been built
for travellers.
Day
4. Samode - Mandawa
Drive to the Shekhawati region, famous for it's painted havelis. Afternoon
visit to the surrounding villages and overnight stay in the village of
Mandawa.
Day 5. Mandawa - Bikaner - Gajner
Continue your drive west towards the desert. A stop at Bikaner to visit the
Junagarh Fort and the Jain Temples . Overnight stay in Bikaner or just
outside at the hunting lodge of Gajner.
Day 6. Bikaner/Gajner - Jaisalmer
Morning drive west to the golden walled city of Jaisalmer in the middle of
the Thar desert. Late afternoon visit to the small lake of Gadi Sagr and
then the Chhattris (cenotaphs) to watch the sunset. Return to Jaisalmer for
your overnight stay.
Day 7. & 8. In Jaisalmer
Two full days in Jaisalmer including a walking tour of the city inside the
walls, the famous Merchant's Houses, Jain Temples, colourful bazaars and of
course a camel safari with dinner out in the desert.
Day 9. Jaisalmer - Manvar
Morning drive towards Jodhpur with an overnight stop at Manwar. This
property is built like a tiny desert village offering good food and lodgings
to the traveller. Take a camel ride or a jeep safari if you wish or a dip in
the pool.
Day 10. Manvar - Jodhpur
A short drive south will bring you to the blue city of Jodhpur. An
afternoon visit to the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort and overnight stay in
Jodhpur.
Day 11. Jodhpur - Delhi
Transfer to the airport for the short flight back to Delhi and then to the
airport for your onward destination.
